Each year, John E. Flynn A Marzano Academy takes on the Rachel’s Challenge, a school-wide focus on Kindness. When a school emphasizes the importance of community and fosters that belief through recognized “acts of kindness” it provides the caring environment necessary for learning to occur.
At Flynn, each act of kindness is symbolized by a paper chain link, where one student or staff member records an individual act of kindness they experienced from another. These Kindness Links are collected throughout the year and chained together. The chain grows with each passing week, culminating with an end-of-year Kindness Celebration where all the links are put together to create one long unbreakable chain. This year we had 9615 total links collected with the top class collecting over 2000 links alone.
It was an incredible year of Kindness at Flynn! However, we can never have too much kindness at our school, so we have already set our school-wide goal next year to collect over 10,000 links!
