HP Weekly Update for 7-19-2020

Hello Harris Park Families!

I have missed each of you so much and am very excited as we approach the 2020-2021 school year.

Harris Park is currently working on a reentry plan that outlines all safety measures, processes, procedures, and expectations for the school year. It is vitally important that we provide the safest environment possible for all students, families, and staff. This document will be shared with each of you in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, you are all invited to a zoom with the principal on Friday, 7/24/2020 at 11:30am where I will answer questions, address concerns, and share some of the structures we will have in place. The zoom link is in your email.

Nancy Richey is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting on Friday, 7/24/2020 from 11:30-12:30. Email her if you need the link.

A few highlights from our plan for safely returning learning to the building are: scheduling students, mandatory mask wearing, and procedures for drop off and pick up. Children will be assigned to a cohort (small group of students) with one primary teacher. Students will rotate specials and only participate in one specials (PE, art, or music) for a 20 school day period. Separate cohorts will not interact with each other throughout the day.

Let's Be Proactive! Why the masks? Studies have shown that if everyone is wearing a mask the possibility of transmission of COVID-19 is VERY low. Therefore, one new aspect to our lives is wearing masks throughout the day. When we return to the building in August, the expectation is that all students and staff will be required to wear masks at all times. A mask is mandatory for any individual over the age of 3 who enters the school grounds or school building. Masks will not be required when eating or in certain conditions when outside. Social distancing will be followed. With your help, our goal is for students to see this act as a community leadership opportunity. By synergizing, we will help keep our Harris Park community healthy and together in the building. To accomplish this goal, it is important that we educate our students on the purpose and importance of wearing masks. In the fall, we will address this topic in the classroom, but for now, we are asking that you begin this conversation with your child. Links are provided below to support you in these conversations. If at all possible, please provide a mask for your child. A fun family activity could be making your own mask. A link is shared in your email.
